As Sharing - 10 Ragas to a Disco Beat
Live
"10 Ragas to a Disco Beat" is a seminal album by Charanjit Singh, who unknowingly pioneered a genre by blending traditional Indian ragas with electronic music. In 1982, Singh experimented with synthesizers like the Roland 303 and 808, creating a work that transcended time and place. Initially overlooked, the album’s 2010 reissue by the Dutch label Bombay Connection cemented its importance in both South Asian and electronic music. This project honors Singh’s legacy by reinterpreting his work within Toronto’s diverse cultural and musical landscape.
On May 11 2024, the sanctuary space of the Music Gallery in Toronto was transformed to a tea salon of dreams. Visitors were invited to drink some cha/chai as artists of many modalities took over the main hall in an ode to experimentation.
